How to Claim Your WhatsApp Business Username

How to Claim Your WhatsApp Business Username

Reserve your username now before the feature goes live for users. Reservations happen in WhatsApp Manager, and whatever you claim today activates automatically once usernames launch in your region.

Before you start

A few things to know:
  1. A WhatsApp username is a unique @handle tied to your business phone number. Unlike consumer usernames, which hide personal phone numbers, your number stays visible on your business profile after you set a username.
  2. Each business phone number gets its own username. If you run multiple numbers, each needs a different handle (display names can stay the same).
  3. Usernames run 3–35 characters using lowercase letters, numbers, periods, and underscores.

Step by step: reserve your username in WhatsApp Manager

  1. In WOZTELL, go to Channels, select the channel you would like to claim the Business username for, then go to Platform, and click Claim your username. This opens WhatsApp Manager or Meta Business Suite.

  2. Select the business phone number you want the username on.
  3. Open the Username section and enter the handle you want. If it's available, confirm and submit.

  4. Check the status. Reserved or approved means you're set — the username becomes visible to WhatsApp users automatically when the feature launches in your region.

If the username you want is already in use by your own Facebook Page or Instagram account, you'll first need to link your business phone number to that Page or account. Usernames already claimed by another business or user can't be claimed.

FAQ

Does a username cost anything or change my pricing?
No. Reserving is free, and conversation pricing, templates, and messaging limits are unaffected.

Can I change my username later?
Yes, in the same place. Keep in mind a username maps to one phone number across all of WhatsApp, so once you give one up, someone else can claim it.

What if my preferred handle is taken?
Usernames are unique across WhatsApp. If someone else holds it, you'll need a variant — and some names are held back for governments, public figures, and well-known brands.

Will customers still see my phone number?
Yes. For businesses, the number remains visible on your business profile. The username adds a way to be found; it doesn't hide your number.

Do I need to do anything else for usernames?
Yes. The bigger technical change is BSUID. If your integrations rely on customer phone numbers, review them before usernames fully launch.
