How to Send Messages from Slack to WhatsApp with WOZTELL & Make
This tutorial explains how to set up a Make scenario that forwards messages posted in a Slack channel to WhatsApp conversations using WOZTELL.
Ideal for enabling your team to reach WhatsApp users directly from Slack.
Overview
Your automation flow consists of two modules:
1. Slack – Watch Private Channel Messages: Monitors a Slack channel for new messages.
2. WOZTELL | Unleash WhatsApp – Send WhatsApp Template Message: Sends these messages to WhatsApp using a template.
Visual flow:
Step 1: Watch Private Channel Messages (Slack)
1. In Make, add the module: Slack – Watch Private Channel Messages.
2. Connect your Slack account.
3. Choose the Slack channel where your bot should listen for outgoing messages.
4. Make sure the bot/app is invited and has permission to post and read messages.
Step 2: Send WhatsApp Template Message (WOZTELL)
1. Add the module: WOZTELL | Unleash WhatsApp – Send WhatsApp Template Message.
2. Connect your WOZTELL account.
3. Select the WhatsApp channel for outbound messages.
4. Create a template on WOZTELL with variables for message content, sender, and timestamp.
Recommended template:
{{1}} sent you a message from Slack:
"{{2}}"
-- Sent on {{3}}
If you wish to reply, just answer here and your message will be forwarded to Slack.
5. Map Slack message content and relevant variables to your WhatsApp template fields in Make.
Best Practices
- Prepare the Slack channel and invite your bot/app in advance.
- Design your WhatsApp template to include sender info, message content, and timestamp for clarity.
- Test each step independently to verify correct mapping and message delivery.
- Make sure your WOZTELL template is approved and ready for use.
Result
Once activated, any message posted in your chosen Slack channel will automatically be sent to WhatsApp via WOZTELL, with your custom template applied.
