How to send a broadcast with a carousel template on WhatsApp

Before you start, we recommend that you read our user guide on sending bulk WhatsApp messages

A carousel template allows you to send a message composed of:

  • A single text


  • Up to 10 carousel cards that can be swiped horizontally


Each card can include:
  • An image or video

  • Buttons with CTA


WhatsApp API objects carousel     


1. Create a new template

  • Select “Create Template” from Channels and choose the option "Use a blank template"


  • Select Marketing as the category

  • Enter the name (in lowercase and separated by underscores)
  • Choose the language
  • Choose “Carousel Template” in the category Marketing



  • Click on “Continue"

Write the main text in the "body" field with a maximum of 1024 characters. Remember: you can use variables, emojis, italics, and bold text.

3. Add cards

  • In the Carousel Setting section:
    • Define the "Header Format"; you can use both images and videos
    • If you define images or videos, all the slides of the carousel will be with this format.

Select "Image" in the Header Format.

Image carousel format and dimension recommendations:
  1. JPEG or PNG are the most recommended formats, with a size of 5MB per image.
  2. Horizontal (16:9): Ideal for mobile screens, offering a comfortable format for most devices.

    1. Recommended resolution: 1280 x 720 pixels (HD).
Square (1:1): Works well to ensure the visual consistency of the carousel on mobile devices.
    1. Recommended resolution: 1080 x 1080 pixels.
  1. Vertical (4:5): Useful if you want to take advantage of the full screen space on mobile devices, although it should be noted that it is not the most common option for carousels

    • Recommended resolution: 1080 x 1350 pixels.


Select "Video" in the Header Format.


 
Notes
Video carousel format and dimension recommendations:
  1. It's recommended to upload videos in MP4 format. They should not exceed 16MB.
  2. Horizontal (16:9): Recommended for most mobile devices and WhatsApp screens.
    1. Suggested resolution: 1280 × 720 pixels (HD).
  3. Square (1:1): Works well for uniformity in carousels.
    1. Suggested resolution: 1080 × 1080 pixels.
  4. Vertical (9:16): Not always supported in carousels, better used in individual messages or Stories.
  5. Maximum length:
    1. 30 seconds per video to ensure compatibility and a good user experience.

4. Define each card (slide of the carousel)

For each card:

  • Essential: You will need to add a sample in the Header (image or video); you need to upload an image or video in order for META to approve your templates. (If you don't have a sample and have the final images, that's fine, but remember that

     these images won't be defined here)

  • Wait for the green tick to appear to continue. This appears when the samples are correctly uploaded and validated.

  • Complete the body and the buttons of that card. Make sure that the text in each card fits the 160-character limit in the body of the message (body)
  • You can use up to 10 cards. Use “+ Add Card” to add them, and then you can redefine the order they show up with drag & drop


5. Select the CTA for your buttons

  1. When configuring a carousel template for bulk WhatsApp messages, you can add different types of interactive buttons:
  2. Phone number
    Allows the user to make a call or open WhatsApp with one click.
    1. Maximum: 20 characters (alphanumeric).
    2. Example: +15550051310.
    3. The text for the phone number button label must contain a maximum of 25 characters.
    4. Example: Call
  3. Quick Reply (quick response)
    Facilitates immediate responses from the user within the chat.
    1. Maximum: 25 characters.
    2. Example: I want to know more!
  4. URL (web link)
    Opens the device's default browser when the button is clicked.
    1. Button text: maximum 25 characters.
    2. URL: maximum 2000 characters.
    3. Supports dynamic variables through placeholders.
    4. Example:  
      1. https://woztell.com/es/integrar-paypal-con-whatsapp/{{1}}
      2. Where the variable {{1}} can be replaced by terms like “tutorial”.
  • Send your template for approval by clicking the "Send to Approve" button


IMPORTANT: These are just samples. In the next step, you will define the real cards that will be sent.

Once the template is approved, upload the images or videos to WOZTELL’s servers, which ensures correct processing of the media.

7. Configure the sending of your campaign

  1. Go to the "Campaigns" tab in the top menu and click on "New Campaign"
  2. Choose the campaign name and select the channel
  3. In the "Message Template", select the previously approved template and choose the language.

  1. Choose the option "+ Choose From Media Library" to select the image or video files you uploaded to the Media Library.


  1. Click the button "Select Media ID" 
  1. This example shows how the Video Media ID is included in the section "Carousel Header" for the video carousel format.

Warning
IMPORTANT: Do not make any changes to the MEDIA ID. This identification is key for the carousel to work properly during the delivery of the broadcast.

8. Make your delivery

In the last screen of this process, you will be able to:
  1. Send your template to a defined number to perform a test of the same
  2. Take a look at the audience that will receive this template
  3. Get a preview of the template
  4. Define whether to send it now or schedule it.
